Laptop Battery Calculation.

10/08/2011 8:51 AM

Hi All,

I am a guy from IT background and I don't have any idea regarding battery calculation. Can anyone guide me to calculate battery capacity which I am want to use in my design please.

My requirement is Battery should long for at least 6 hours.

Currently I am having battery of 7600mAH, Battery voltage 7.4V. Adapter rating is : 19VDC & 2.1 A This battery gives me backup of 3 HRS. (battery is having 4 cell each of 14wAH and 3300mAH)

How can I calculate mAH of battery as I want to re-design for 6 cell capacity.

Thanks in advance.

Rajesh

Regards

As far as the capacity rating calculation is concerned:

<< battery is having 4 cell each of 14wAH and 3300mAH) >>

14wAH means if you draw 14W continuously it will sustain for 1 hour at 1/10 c

3300mAH= 3.3 AH means if drain is 3.3A it will sustain for 1 hour. at 1/10 c

If less power or amps are used it will of course sustain longer but there is no direct formula. You have to test it or if manufacturer data shows some graph then you can approximate. [say 1/ 11 c or lower]

Higher drains of course will drain earlier. [say 1/9 c or higher]

If you like to design for a higher volts battery it will be advantage of longer backup time in the same AH/ but you will have to re-design your system.

Remember increasin voltage or capacity will increase the size of the battery.
