ASME B16.11 and MSS SP-97 Socket Weld Depths

10/11/2011 3:37 PM

How are the min. socket depths (Dimension "J") calculated/determined in B16.11?

MSS SP-97 also matches up min socket depths with B16.11 and references it, however for any pipe size greater than 4", I am unable to determine the min depth of the socket.

Regards,

-Mark

Hi,

Socket welds are restricted to pipe size 4" by both the code specified, usually Customer spec have more stringent requirements and limit to size lesser than 2", therefore please check Client spec.
