HDD R/W

10/12/2011 12:30 PM

hey everyone

How is possible reading from a HDD but you can't write any thing to it?

threre was a test program (Victoria HDD test), during test shows reading from all sectors but when tries to write, fails.

also other programs shows MBR is not valid.

is there any way to recover this HDD or I should through it away?!

Maybe some "read only" or "write protect" option has been activated. I would look for an Options or Config(uration) dialog box somewhere, or even just a selector switch as on some flash drives.

This can be set with a jumper on most hard drives. (Assuming you are talking about a regular electro-mechanical hard disk drive.)

Also if the write programmable logic is failing. You can try to swap controller boards with another drive of its type.

The drive can likely be "recovered" once you find out why it is not doing what you want it to. It's kind of hard to reformat a drive if you cannot write to it.
