Barlow Wadley Table Short Wave Radio Wanted

10/15/2011 7:30 AM

I am a ham and collector. This Short Wave Radio was made in South Africa and is Ugly as Sin, but has a very interesting front end design. I would like to find one for my collection. It was built in the 70's but looks like something out of the 60's colours are green on some and a salmon colour on others.

Have you tried the Barlow Wadley hobbyist website? There might be options for you there,,,

While you're at it, why not collect the Baygen (pronounced bayjen) radio from South Africa . It was the original windup radio with AM and FM. Again big and ugly, made from awful plastic, but works fine and delivers adequate volume.

The Barlow-Wadley circuit translates input signals up to the 60MHz band, uses harmonics from a 1MHz crystal to select a one MHz slice of the spectrum, and then translates back down.

In Australia, Electronics Australia magazine designed the Deltahet radio based on the Barlow-Wadley. There were 2 versions, one using valves (tubes) and one using transistors, Deltahet Mk 1 and Deltahet Mk 2.

The English Racal RA-17 Comms Receiver also used the same circuit.

If your still seeking a deltahet MKII IVE recent come across 1 in supurb order with spare tubes.

I’m located in Dubbo NSW, however I do not know a lot about it, but have been informed there somewhat rare & spare parts also hard to come by. Idk know what’s it’s worth nor am I out to profit emmensly from it but am asking a fair reasonable price once I can evaluate it.

ill be asking advice from either local amateur radio club or contact Australia hostical radio society for advice.

i can forward you pictures upon request.

thanks
