Perkins Generator Starts in Full Speed but After 2 Seconds Stops

10/17/2011 9:35 AM

Hi Friends,

I have a Perkins generator 256 kw 570 kva 1800 rpm. Today I am facing a problem. If I start my generator it starts in full speed but time of showing rpm it stops. I check all fuel, fuel pump is good. Even I change all fuel pump & fuel filter too there is not fuel air problem. Can anyone please help me out? Why is it stopping? Is there prob with emercency stop push button? How to solve it pls help.

Regards & Thanks.

You have been having problems with your Perkins line up for a year now!

Have you tried contacting Perkins tech support?

Have you tried a Google search using "Perkins XXX-XXXX-XX (Model Number) Trouble Shooting Guide" or "Perkins XXX-XXXX-XX Shut Down Symptoms"?

Low oil pressure switch not working? Bypass it temp (one minute only) and see what happens.

I've just looked at your previous posts as I assume JKJ has. I'm just amazed you still have a job! One year on and not one step forward, it beggars belief.

The correct time to call Perkins passed a long time ago.

Hmm, there are too much possibilities of this fault:

you should keenly observe the engine while shutting down and take action accordingly; bcz there is no indication for the stop. As I think possible checks will be

Fuel system check(u said, it is checked by u already), then check the contacts of fuel solenoid may be it can malfunction during running.

Also check the speed sensor and its contacts.

also try to check other parameters(oil/temp/voltage/rpm) while engine running in full speed; if there is any abmnormality then check them accordingly.

At last check ur control module if it has any issue in it.

:)

there is no any solenoid in my engine - are you sure? There will be some system which works like a solenoid to cut off the fuel supply when the engine is switched off. Now, it may be within the injector circuit but something is required to stop the fuel flowing when the ignition is switched off. Any wire with degraded insulation could be to blame, and can come in contact with a metal part of the engine due to start-up vibrations. Check wires & harnesses for any damage.

Speed sensor faulty? Most engines control their speed via a crankshaft sensor; if faulty or bad wiring, the engine will shut down. Check that the wires to the sensor are intact, not shorting or broken. Then remove the sensor and ensure the slug (either lump of metal, short tooth on flywheel, or notch beside teeth) is present and clean. The sensor can be checked that it is functioning - although very reliable, they can deteriorate over a number of years.

Check the start/run switch. On start, enough diesel may be pumped for a two second run. When the switch changes to run, a contact is not properly made. I presume to stop the engine the fuel is shut off.
