AC/DC Decrement for Interrupting Rating of PCB

10/18/2011 2:32 PM

Dear Fellow,

I have few doubt.

Usually Momentary is greater than Interrupting Rating because Interrupting accounts AC/DC decrement.

Why do we need to consider AC and DC decrement multiplying factors in sizing Interrupting Rating for MV/HV PCB? Why not use the same rating to Momentary Rating for conservative reason and simplification of calculations?

thanks,

Actually the two ratings are there to allow for a more economic (read as "cheaper") installation. The use of conservative estimates almost always results in overbuilt, underutilized, higher cost installations. Shortcuts cost long money, but if your last client doesn't mind then go right ahead, just don't expect him to be sympathetic when he finds out how much it cost him to make your job "simpler".
