I’ve Been a Fool To Myself!

10/21/2011 11:25 PM

I've been a fool to myself

This follows on from Kramarat's post about his friend.

For the last 5 years I've been having problems passing water. Like a fool I kept quiet about it (pride). Moving to a new location meant a new doctor. So a visit to the practice nurse for a general health check. She did some urine tests while I was there, she turned around and asked straight out if I'd been having problems. Had to admit "yes".

I was scared the moment the doctor mentioned prostate cancer so I needed tests. Got the results last Thursday, pancreas OK and more surprisingly so are my liver and kidneys.

OK I will have to take tablets for the pancreas for the rest of my life. They've made one hell of a difference to me. The worry of cancer is now lifted, for now!

All because I was to embarrassed / proud / stupid to ask!

Tony,

Rule No1. If in doubt, get it checked out!

Rule No2. If in doubt, get it checked out!

These types of thing, trivial as they seem at the time can cause severe health issues if left to fester. Best to kick it into touch when you first suspect any foul play!

I'm pleased that you are OK Tony, Look after yourself

Good to hear you are ok.
Ages ago a routine blood test showed some anomally and after endless tests and checkups it turns out I have only one kidney.
Funnilly enough my Son also only has one. It's not as uncommon as one might suppose as sometimes one doesn't develop, or the two stay together and form one big 'horseshoe' kidney.
I reckon I caught it off my Son.
There's a fine line between not checking up enough on the one hand and hypochondria on the other.
It pays to be your own doc' too use the internet and research your condition, especially with any medication side effects.

Glad you're okay Tony...............and that the problem was caught in time.

I'm as bad as anyone about going to the doctor. I just don't feel like it, mostly.

5 years is a long time to ignore something, but your thread might inspire someone else to go get checked......................actually, it's time for my 5 year colonoscopy. Probably past time, come to think of it. Colon cancer killed my mother, so I'd be wise to make an appointment.

Thanks for sharing.

I really don't understand why they see fit to pull these threads from the front page so fast.

Glad to hear that the procrastination was not costly and that you are OK. Another thing along this line that folks should remain aware of is Kidney stones. Most guys don't want to think about these little suckers until they are on the floor about to pass out.

I thought I was 'safe' because every now and again I would pass one or two. It took an ambulance ride this year to find out how wrong that was. I had a 27mm golf ball in the right side and an asteroid looking thing on the left that is over 35mm long.

The pain from a compound bone fracture is akin to stubbing your toe when compared to a big stone.

A simple X-Ray will see them and it's a relatively simple thing to get them gone when little.

Just a few little ones caused some of the worst pain I've ever experienced.

I've been taking calcium supplements for years. I've now incorporated vitamin c. The acidity helps keep them from forming.

I also didn't drink enough water throughout the day, which is important.

Hi Tony,

IMHO what you were feeling sounds pretty common, it's human nature (at least for me).

I am still a big scardy cat (no pun intended Del) when it comes to doctors, needles, ect.

I have done the same over the years and thankfully when I did get around to getting the symptom checked out it has never been serious.

As I age I have realized that I cannot put off health issues though. Early detection is the name of the game. As far as the pills, I am taking two for life, no big deal. Biggest problem for me is remembering to take them.

Very happy to hear that there were no major health issues with you.

Regards - KJK

The real cause of cancer is still unknown but unhealthy food habit like drinking cold water after an oily meal may add risk of cancer.
