Cool Levitation Video

10/21/2011 8:18 AM

Here's an interesting article about 'quantum trapping' with an amazing demonstration video of levitation using this principle. This is waaay better than any type of levitation you've seen before. The video is embedded.

Or, you can skip the article and go directly to the video here:

That's very cool!!!!!

I wonder if the UFOs are using this idea somehow?

IF there are UFOs, the technology is probably of the ilk that once explained to us, we might slap our forehead and say, "Of course! Why didn't we see/think that?" ... then again, probably not.

How heavy do you think that "disk" is: he seems to be able to move it in and out of position very easily.

But still WOW!

OK. Somebody tell me how you can "set" the distance from the magnet, and it maintains that distance while going around the "track". You can even tilt it and it stays tilted.

But yes, really cool!

Excellent demonstrations. The flux trapping in defects is a known characteristic of real life superconductors. The 0,5 micron thick layers deposited on isolator are high temperature superconductor ceramic. Since they are multicomponent oriented layer structures, it is quite nice result of getting these sizeable disks.

Good results.

Very cool and "cold" Thanks. These experiments remind me of a demonstration presented by our hydro generation utility when I was in High School back in the 50s. These fellows came in with microwave towers that worked on stage. They even demonstrated that the microwaves could cook eggs between them. I am not sure this would be an appropriate means of demonstrating microwaves as they had no protection. But interesting enough we soon had microwave ovens in our homes that we now take for granted. I am not concerned for the safety of the superconductivity demos but rather liked the comparison of leading edge technologies. I think this type of superconducting will present opportunities in the near future on the scale of microwaves and likely will have a large impact on human lives...for the better. Maybe we should be seeking sapphire mines as these type of minerals will likely be important. Thanks again.
