Fire Protection of Power Transformers

10/24/2011 1:33 AM

Fire Protection of power transformers: We have 2 oil transformers each of 1 MVA ,33/0.433 kv rating and oil capacity of 927 litres.Do i need to have the firewall between 2 transformers. What is the minimum centre to centre space between the transformers so that barrier wall is not required?

Yes, no, maybe.

It depends where you are. With no information to go on, I'm lost. So are you.

British Standard, NEC, who knows. Maybe you're a BMOC.

Oil filled Transformers are susceptible to catch fire and in case a transformer catches fire anything in the vicinity will get engulfed.

Codes require a minimum distance of one meter between the fire wall and transformer but leave it to you to judge the separation between the transformer and the surrounding objects should there be no wall.

Having said that, it is you who would let us know that if there is a separation of xx meters between the two 1MVA units, in case of fire on one the other will not have any adverse effect.
