A "holiday" is a discontinuity or thin spot in a coating. Defect.

Just make sure that your coatings don't celebrate New Year's Day, May Day, Fourth of July, Presidents' Day, Cinco de Mayo, Thanksgiving, Bastille Day, Ramadan, Hannukah, etc. Those will be the days that corrosion intrudes....

The usual verification is with a high voltage breakdown measurement between the pipe and a spring contact that encircles the pipe and is rolled along the entire length of the coated pipe. When a holiday is detected, the device (that they were using 20 years ago)made a sound that has become the slang for the detecting device, "Jeep".

Holiday free coating it means that coating should be adhered to pipe. Generally after bitumen coating of pipes there is holiday detector test should be applied and shouldn't be any adhering defects.

This is adhesion testing.

Holiday testing is different as exlained in above posts.

Holiday = gap between working

hence the name.

The usual test as said above is normally through resistance contact tests (as mentioned above) in case of insulating media eg paint or special techniques in case of conducting media (eg metal coatings)

Adhesion test is the cross-hatch adhesion tested (peeling off properties) usually done with some adhesive - eg tapes or sometime vacuum grips too.

Hello. Years ago must gas lines were covered with a tar type of coating that would get damaged very easy in moving and cutting them into different lengths. The welded joints had to be coated also.Before placing the long sections in the ground they were inspected with an electrical device that would make a beeping sound so it could be repaired.The damaged area was called a holiday. Today most smaller mains are made of solid plastic and are instaled with a metal wire so it can be found after it is buried.
