A good place to look for ideas is in industrial magazines. You could really go out on a limb and conduct a search on the Internet. Come back when you have an idea and need help that you can't find for yourself on the internet or the library. If you have a dilemna of choice then ask for help with selection based on merit. The choosing part of the project teaches you to make decisions and to demonstrate initiative and creativity. This is very important. Get to work.

I recommend researching/designing a high voltage system to transfer power in my concept of a worldwide solar cell power system. My idea is to have solar cells all around the world. When it gets dark in an area, the area could get power from the lighted areas. This transfer of power would need super high voltage lines to be feasible. And, of course, some of the lines would be under water. You could consider comparing DC high voltage transmission to AC high voltage transmission. There is new technology that might make DC transmission feasible. DC transmission would eliminate the need for inverters.
