How to decide the vector group of a transformer in a system. Is it necessary only in case of parallel operation of transformers or while also in single operation of transformers?

It is really only important in the case of interconnected systems, where you don't want the two systems to be out of phase. Other issues to consider do include protection relaying, standards, costs etc. There are also a lot of standard preferences (for example Dyn11 is very common on low voltage systems in many countries).

He is yet another link on vector groups for you.
