Copper Stranded specification

04/26/2007 8:28 AM

Greetings, I am trying to locate a proper spec for a multi stranded copper conductor and its insulation properties. I am not a EE but perhaps someone out there could reduce the path I am about to venture onto?

Why is this specification needed? For example, is it a cable the supplier must produce for a certain purpose? Or is it being extended up to and possibly beyond its insulation rating?

Try ASTM std: B3-01 as a minimum guide. Your application affects the insulation and Cu. properties you will finally require.

The AWG (American Wire Gauge) copper wire table gives the wire size, circular mills, weight/lb. and nominal ohms/1000 feet @ 20deg. C. That will get you started.

What is your Application: The quality of the Cu. ie percent Elongation is importan. The Temperature the cable is subjected to will guide your insulation specification. The type of product and its usage will determine the style of cable.
