The Galvanic effect is were an electric current results from a chemical action. The oxygen must be inter acting with a substance to produce an electric current that is then detected.

its been a while but the oxygen sensor and the o2 sensor on a blood gas machine both work the same way, its been a while but if I remember- the oxygen actually causes the metal to burn/oxidize that prodices hydrogen ions-electric current, that is then measured. you might see something related to this in a web site thats specific to Respiratory therapist,

I just ask this to my friend, and he told me about his jeep oxygen sensor. Example is the car batteries, they are usually lead-acid batteries, which are galvanic cells. A galvanic cell has metal electrodes and two different electrolytes, creating two half-cells which are connected by a salt bridge, or filter.

what particular brand/model your 02 sensor has? Because I have my Land-rover oxygen sensor... tell me first because I guest we have the same theory about 02 sensor. I may go back again here if you post what model/brand you are having.

Thank you! Mine is mercedes-benz oxygen sensor... I found this it may help you understand about oxygen sensor

" The oxygen sensor is one of the most important elements of the modern fuel injection systems. A finely tuned fuel injection system with an oxygen sensor can maintain an air/fuel ratio within a close tolerance of .02 percent. Keeping the engine at the stoichiometric level (14.6:1 air/fuel ratio) helps the engine generate the most power with the least amount of emissions. "
