Please do not shout.

DoubleCad™ is one example of a free drafting package.
An engineer's scale, pencil, and paper could also work.

Please be more specific!

You're showing your youth! A "Dumpy" level is an older manual type that is adjusted by four setscrews with thumbwheels, with a sensitive bubble level to check in both x and y directions.

"Section" in the OP's context is simply a profile drawing of elevation versus horizontal distance.

(In 1968 and 1969, I used one of these antiques for rough surveying of logging roads in a Forest Service summer job.)

I'm not THAT young (53 Y.O.).....I know this device as a "Surveyor's Level".

Perhaps the use of "Dumpy Level" is a regional thing? Then again, I'm not a surveyor.

I think the term just distinguishes it from the self-leveling type (with a wire-hung prism assembly).

I only wish that the OP had been a bit more specific about what he/she initially wanted answered in the body of his/her posting.

IF he/she is looking for a specific Civil Works type software package that calculates earthwork quantities and cross-sections of highways and roads, he/she should have said so in the first place.

IF he/she is running an AUTOCAD program, then there are several "add-on" software modules out there that are very good, but none is free. One is the LAND DEVELOPMENT module. there are several others, but I won't be naming them for sake of brevity. Of course, there are some free ones IF you can find them, but most, if not all, are crappy and not worth the time and effort. YOU GET WHAT YOU PAY FOR, as the old adage goes......

OR, the OP can learn to do the actual computations by hand & calculator using a scaled topographic plan partitioned off into a scaled grid the way we used to do it long before the advent of the desktop PC.....time consuming sure, but still doable!
