NASA grounds Shuttle Fleet until at least March

08/18/2005 4:27 PM

NASA has pushed back all space shuttle flights until at least March 2006 citing the need for more time to fix foam insulation that has torn during liftoff of the last two shuttle flights. According to NASA administrator Michael Griffin "We are trying to insert the necessary conservatism in this and that is why we are going out as far as March and giving ourselves what we hope is plenty of time to evaluate where we are."

why not just use somthing simple

Why can't NASA just shrink wrap the tank or place a fine wire mesh over the exterior, or maybe just plain cover it with speed tape. Exotic remedies for somthing that will just burn up on rentry.Sounds like an extream over Kill on what is called safety. We conducted 50 flights and now we are preocupied with the needle that may be in the hay stack. Yes it is sad that we lost people but exploration is not a safe job.
