Current Transformer Rating

11/20/2011 7:12 AM

Good day every one. Wanna ask what does 400-200/1 A rating of the current transformer mean actually. We are using this in transformer differential protection application.

Best Regards,

AJ

The primary side of the CT has two coils (generally single turn coil) which have the option to be connected in series or parallel. For the primary coils are connected in series, the CT ratio is 200/1A and they are connected in parallel, the CT ratio is 400/1. The CT nameplate should have connection diagram for both options. Generally this sort of CT is supplied with the two pieces of connection splice for the connection.

It will be a multi-tap CT ( a dual tap). The seconday winding will have 'n' number of turns and at n/2 turns, there will be a tapping for external connection. Let us say, the secondary terminals are marked S1, S2 & S3; then Terminals S1 & S2 mean that the CT is 200/1A & Terminals S1 & S3 mean that the CT is 400/1A.
