Windows Virtual PC XP Mode

11/20/2011 4:32 PM

Been an extremely hectic week back on field assignment after a 2 week vacation.

And I find my new Probook with 7 Pro and Office 2010 Business acting up all week to boot.

The infamous downloads took place and as often happens, things just don't work the same.

I discovered the Virtual PC by accident and downloaded it today; played around with it a little bit and will see next week if it is compatible with some of my very expensive older software. If it works, it is one of the kindest things MS has done since offering XP.

Anyone have any experience with Virtual PC XP Mode?

I would really appreciate the input fellow CR4 members.

You might check list of compatible software here...

I use AutoCad 2006 and Virtual Xp at work. The new PC I got has W7. XP was installed by my IT person, so I don't know what the legal requirements are.

Aside from some font issues and difficulty finding some old AC files, it seems to work as well as on my old machine. It's actually a little faster loading than on the old machine, but the cursor is slower. I haven't tried to optimize it, it's OK for my once a month use.

So, go for it.

try Virtualbox for using xp in win 7 host. lot more custom options than virtual pc from MS, and it supports almost all versions of windows, Linux, and Mac Virtual boxes. also has native usb support so your external devies like flash drives and printers will work with it too. Here's the link to it if you want to check it out.
