Reverse Direction Detect

11/23/2011 11:25 AM

In conveyor system forward rotating time speed sensor sense and reply to PLC conveyor is working normal. Found mechanical gearbox hold back system is failure in some time, that time conveyor got rotate towards reverse direction(inclined conveyors) automatically this will lead the problem at start and stop the conveyor. So I need to know when the conveyor is starting in reverse direction please give me idea to how to identify the probem and which sensor is best to detect this problem. Please give ur valuable comments.

Wouldn't fixing the gearbox hold back system be the best solution?

There are plenty of direction rotation sensors on the market, look on Google.

Install a ratcheted reverse blocking cam clutches or bearings etc. These are common in industry. Get one you can turn off, in case you wish reverse operation in setup

cam clutches, etc

If you have A plc controlling the conveyor, then you can use a quadrature encoder to indicate direction. I would suggest a motor brake to stop and or hold the conveyor.
