Preventative Maintenance and Rotating Equipment Overhaul?

11/28/2011 5:00 AM

Hi everybody,

I have some questions if you can help me with i:

What are the preparations for a gas turbine major overhaul, brief the main activities and schedule it step wise?

How do you prepare and on what basis for a plant shutdown?

Why do we review the PM schedules and on what basis to establish the maintenance programs?

What is the technique used for failure analysis of a plant equipment?

What are the main checks and activities for the overhaul of a centrifugal compressor?

There are the sorts of things that the Client organisation will have written procedures for. Start digging locally!

PWS got there first with the real world answer...talk to your service provider and ask what they expect to be in place when their field engineer arrives and what support s/he expects whilst they're there.

I would add:

Check your course notes. This sounds like an assignment / homework question.

This forum is not the place to come for such detailed information on equipment about which we know nothing. All we know is that you have a gas turbine generator, and yet, you ask, "What are the preparations for a gas turbine major overhaul, brief the main activities and schedule it step wise.

Each of these questions will require a book sized volume of information to answer completely. And years of experience, as well.

Consult the manufacturer of the equipment and the service company.

The first part of this file shows an overhaul of a turbine that had to be repaired because of a crack in the turbine blade...it will give you some idea..

Contact the OEM or nominated contractor regarding the scope, cost and schedule of the outage.

List down the activities required to be done and resources required.

Typically as an Owner you might have to arrange for the labour, scaffolding and Crane.

Negotiate with cran supplier for the duration you require the nominated crane capacity on hire.

Ensure adeqauet living facilities for labour during outage. The OEM will send their Technical Representataive.

Establish the mandatory spare parts required. Note some spare parts have in excess of 18 months lead time. Establish mandatory repairs.

Inform the market operator of time and duartion of the plant outgae, ensuring it is clear of peak months.

The techniques used for failure analysis depend on the the OEM, keep it in their scope.

The compressor will need CO2 cleaning (Owner scope).

Establish any guaranteed performance improvements and measurement procedure.

Include any balance of plant equipment , generator etc that also need overhaul.
