Heat Staking Parameters

Hi I am trying to find temperatures and pressures used in heat staking of 30% GF nylon 6. All I am getting so far is the general procedure and finished stake shapes.

Any literature source or guideline well be useful.

Melt temp is 420F for Nylon 6...

That's without filler. The glass is there to raise the heat deflection and melting temperature. Remember, glass doesn't melt or change viscosity.

OP, I suggest that before we confuse you too much that you contact the company that is supplying the resin and ask them.

480-510°F and 15-30PSI, if using heat only. If using ultrasonic energy it depends on many more factors.

Thanks for the values gives me a better idea of the capabilities.

there wont be any ultrasonic staking, just heat staking. These values did you know these through personal experience?

That's my recollection of 25 years ago.

I'd start with a heat controlled soldering iron and experiment with different temperatures. There are a lot of variables. You'll know when you get to the right temperature.

Is this manual or automated processs?
