Why Can I Not Paste a Link in Cr4?

12/03/2011 9:38 AM

I am using Windows 7 Pro and MS Office 2010 here.

I cannot paste a link, or work with fonts amongst other things.

What is wrong cr4 staff?

What browser are you using? Some of them don't work well on CR4.

Internet Explorer is my browser of choice.

Firefox is even worse, especially with it's limitations in zoom, something these 65 year old eyes need.

Using Firefox, hold down CTRL and press = for larger text, and - for smaller text. Zooms everything, including the graphics.

(It uses the key with the + sign on it, but you don't press the shift key, just the CTRL key, to make things larger.)

Right click does not work for me, only half of the menu right above me is bold.

See below, taken with my BlackBerry!

The menu will become operational once text is highlighted...hold left click down, pass pointer over text...Your right click sounds like a software conflict, try reboot...

CR4 is the only site I have found that does not allow me to right click.

The left click idea works, but why am I having this problem only here.

Thanks for the input though!

As I use each command, it becomes bold.

It sounds like you have some security program blocking install of shell extension here...

This might help..

I too find that the formatting is a right pain.

Even paragraphs require control characters to be manually entered.

Formatting tags are shown at the bottom of the reply pane but don't include the paragraph formatting control character tags. I found that out through trial and error...

I figured this was some sort of deliberate "retro feel" for old engineers. I use Opera browser.

To paste - use the CTRL+V shortcut.

You can also bypass the right-click menu - but learning keyboard shortcuts is usually faster and can be used on other sites as well.

I have always just manually copied the link from the Address Bar (I usually follow any link I want to paste) and paste it or link it to whatever text I wish. I can't ever remember this not working. If there is a shortcut, I never paid attention. But the manual method has been reliable. (I use Firefox rather than IE, on general principles.

Thanks for all of the help group.

I have tried to work around the problem with all of your suggestions, but nothing works as it did in previous versions of Windows and Office.

Other browsers do not allow me either at the present time.

I have found that much software that is touted as compatible doesn't work well either.

I find it is a case of 3rd party vendors and sites not engineering fixes until a new version of OS comes out (I expect the fix when Windows 8 appears)

You should be able to paste a link into the text editor by clicking CTRL+V

To format text you must first highlight/select the text you wish to format - then click on the appropriate formatting button.

I'm not sure I understand the other problems you're having. Do you see this toolbar when above the text editor when you enter text? If not, you should try using another browser.

About half of the toolbar is not highlighted and usable.

Control V works, I just figured copy and paste was easier.

Being mechanical instead of it, I never remember all of the controls.

This is with Control V, again copy and paste does not work.

All controls on the toolbar work when I highlight my text.

The first six buttons or so only "come to life" when you have highlighted text. This is normal.

If you prefer to paste with your mouse you must right click in the text editor, disable the right-click toolbar, and then right click to paste. You will have to do that each and every time you want to paste using the mouse.

I prefer keyboard shortcuts to save time. There are just a handful that make life a lot easier!

Subscript and superscript are "dead" too.

I just highlight the text.................it's the only way I've ever known to do it.

I just used copy and paste to repeat the comment, and highlighting worked for all other functions.

OK, say I want to copy and paste a link by using right click to copy?

I copied a URL, now I right click to paste here, it does not work.

Control V: http://www.yahoo.com/?r293=1317576752 does.

If I type in some text and then highlight it, the frame freezes until I right click outside it.
