12/12/2011 8:35 AM

Hi,

I am working on fall protection related stuff. I am very new to this area. I am interested in learning the kinematics behind fall protection like life lines, basic level calculation of loads, defelctions at the ends of support for single person etc. Please suggest me on this, if you have any information.it will be great help for me.

Thank you in advance

For basic information you could try supplier websites (such as fall protection harness supplier websites).

I suggest a certification course from a number of qualified companies offering training in fall protection. Gravitec.com, Comtrain, etc. The Petzl catalog also has good information, however learning the ropes and ropework in a comprehensive certification course is not only essential for one's own safety, but more importantly the safety of those who will have to rescue you in the event something goes wrong, which is very likely if you are not properly trained and equipped. OSHA statistics reveal that falls are the major cause of accidents in the work place with tower climbing being the most dangerous job in the U.S.A.. Studying the mechanics of falls and the calculations of loads are part of the necessary knowledge base but theory must be studied in conjunction with actual hands on training from a qualified certification agency. Be safe.

Please advise on what company, product brand you are working for.

I will not have myself or anyone working for Rig Machinery Consultants be your test Guinea pigs.

I would think that OSHA would have the info you are looking for.
