elmtag

We need some more info before we can be helpful.

1. What country are you in?

2. Can you provide a picture or pictures of the bearings?

3. What about part numbers and manufacturer of the bearings?

4. There may be better quality bearings available that will last longer. They will cost more.

5. What size are the compressors?

6. How often do they run? Does your plant run 24 hours 7 days a week or ?

7. Any other information that may help us to help you.

8. Have you been in contact with your bearing supplier? If so, what have they told you?

If you're still using babbit bearings, you can do it yourself, or send them out. It would help to know where you are.

whats the real problem in your compressor? beacuse there should not be the bearing problem in your compressor , who is overhauling these compressor, contractor or in house.I have lot of exprerience in reciprocating compressor as well as diesel engines.if you explain your problem clearly, I might help you.But you can not make the bearing or rebulid the bearing , you must use orignial bearing only and stick with it . try to fix the route cause .

No real fix for these units other than re-pouring the bearings as they have been done in the past. Now to do this in house with your labor force is one way to get it completed. But, if your looking at a complete job done correctly (I assume main bearings are bad) the shafts will have to be re-trued as well. I have worked on these old units where 30 to 90 day turn around is not unheard of for this type of repair. Find a compressor repair house that has done these types of unit in the past. Do not use someone who thinks they can pour a bearing. Very complicated process for the untrained person.

Find the manufacture of the compressor.

See if they have refurbished units for sale or if another vendor specializes in refurbishing these compressors.

Order a new or refurbished (usually a bit less) and replace the unit.

Even with a crane and rigging there will be less down time, than rebuilding or overhauling and training your staff to do it and you have turned the warranty process over to the manufacturer. It becomes there issue for at least the first year and many MFT's offer extended warranties for pennies on the dollar.

Most compressors need to be opened up at 10k hours and looked at for wear.

The short answer is yes they can. I work for the largest bearing manufacturer in the world. We repair all sizes and types daily.
