Neutral CT

12/12/2011 11:24 PM

Dear friends,

The neutral CT provided in the NGR is meant for measuring the return path of the earth fault current to facilitate earth fault tripping. We have provided one Earthing transformer and an NGR for the 11 kV (delta) side of our 80 MVA,132/11 kV Generator transformer. In that NGR CT P1 side is connected to the star point of the earthing TFR P2 is connected to the resistance side. If the neutral earth is meant for fault current return path the P1 has to be connected to the resistance side as current enters through P1.Pl clarify regarding this.

Why do you worry? As long as the current thro the relay is more than the setting, the relay will work, irrespective of the direction of current flow - whether from P2 to P1 or from P1 to P2. These relays are non-directional type.
