Substation Lightning Protection

Dear sir,

We have 161/34.5 kv Substation yard. We want to install lightning mast at a height of 15+3 mtr ( including shielding wire(alumoweld 7/2.59mm) ). Kindly confirm the angle of protection, whether 30deg or 45 deg, and how many lightning masts required.

Pls clarify the same and give us your valuable suggestion to improve our design

Hire a local engineer to do the design work, or you'll be sorry.

30Deg is better option.As regards no of masts it depends upon the area coverage and hence you should be able to calculate.Good references have been given in the post which should help.
