How to Calculate Torque from Pressure?

12/16/2011 10:02 AM

I have a pressure point of 300Mpa that is about 5mm away from the center of a M5 bolt. How do I calculate the torque(x) for the M5 bolt?

300Mpa>>>>>>>>>>>>M5 Bolt(X)

Disregard the 300Mpa force altogether.

F = PA; then T = Fr, where F is perpendicular to r. [All in compatible units.]

The bolt torque is going to be part of a system, you must define all parts of the system, including working pressure range, temp, strength of materials being used etc etc...

This video will give some idea...

Multiply by area (of pressure) & divide by length (of torque arm)
