Books for Learning and Practicing Profibus DP in Industry Field

12/20/2011 10:49 PM

Hello my dear friends,

I'm so confused about a book which can help me and some friends know how about Profibus DP V0/V1. If you know pls share me the name of this book and recommend me some tips for learning. I just find a book of Siemens, but i dont know more, if you ever read it, pls give me some advises before my decision.

https://eb.automation.siemens.com/goos/catalog/Pages/ProductData.aspx?catalogRegion=WW&language=en&nodeid=10035731&tree=CatalogTree&regionUrl=/#activetab=order&

I'm new, so i dont know more about configuration or programming or taking diagnostics of this standard.

Okay, pls show me how i can via your experiences?

Thanks much for your support!

Be warned that the link you provided indicates that that title is German language, not in English:

TITLE FB-PROFI START DATE END DATE DURATION TOWN LANGUAGE GERMAN TYPE BOOK COUNTRY DE CURRENCY EUR NOT AVAILABLE IN ENGLISH

For industrial communications beginners, an excellent book is Catching the Process Fieldbus, by James Powell, and Henry Vendelinde.

It is a Siemens publication. I suspect that your Siemens distributor could get you a copy.

From the book's Forward:

To that end, we designed this book to speak to the begineer, to take that interested newbie by the hadn and guide him/her through the bus route to communication success. However, this is not a how-to manual.

Rather, think of it as a primer laying the groundwork for communciation design, providing information for the curious to explore and mtivation for the dedicated to go further.

Topics discussed include BUS operations, protocol details, physical layers and networks, network design basics, installation tips and suggestions, commissioning, maintenance, plant asset management, and troubleshooting. All of these topics are designed to speak to the beginner - to take the whole of PROFIBUS as a fieldbus and spread it out for everyone to sample and to investigate.

Ron Mitchell, author of PROFIBUS - a pocket guide, recommends it for anyone interested in industrial communications, "Very good book! I particularly like your examples from site visits."

Thanks for the link to the Newnes book.

>In our forum, where is Profibus discussion?

Profibus questions typically come up in either the Instrumentation, Communications & Electronics, and Electrical Engineering fora.

A "search all of CR4" for the search term profibus will show you what's been discussed in the past.
