Converting 1500 KVA 60Hz to 50Hz

12/21/2011 8:34 AM

Can anyone provide me with information regardingthe conversion of 60Hz to 50Hz. I presently have 1500 KVA utility service into a Seimens 3000A switch board. I draw some of this power off to run a 600A panel. I also channel power through a transformer to step up voltage to 4160/7200v which I use for testing construction equipment. I need to simultaneously test 60 & 50Hz equipment. Is there a way to tranfer some of my power from my switchboard to a piece of equipment that would convert the 60Hz to 50Hz so I can run this into another transformer and step it up to the needed voltage? What type of equipment is necessary? Any links that you can think of to guide me in this process? Thanks!

An MG set is the way to go, see Regal Beloit website for information.

This things are a generator coupled to a motor, which is driven by a heavy duty inverter, thus you can get any desired frequency (within inverter capabilities and MG centrifugal restraints) at the output and it is clean (because you're mechanically rotating the generator).

Regards

Dear Matmatthi:

Please don't take offense at my words, it's just that I'm intrigued when I read almost every post from an Indian engineer (not necessarily you); the things that keep me wandering are:

  • How come that a person who is obviously a beginner, has such a great responsibility as starting up a production line, or whole plant.
  • There is nothing wrong with being a beginner, but having no solid technology backgrounds, that's a whole other story.
  • I've always respected Indian engineers, they are my heroes in software development and the like; but when it comes to heavy industries, well...
  • Could it be that your fast developing country has a lack of engineers in the fields of electronics, electrical, mechanical, civil or any other that actually requires them to be hands-on type of persons?.
  • How would I do, if I moved to India, with a fair chunk of experience on my back, compared to locals? (and I'm talking money).
  • But still, they (not talking about you) give it a try, no matter if they ask plain nonsense; they could have been more careful, could have done their homework, or could simply use common sense. The simplicity of some questions is such that I wander if that person is actually commited, and willing to do the job.

Again matmatthi, is not my intent to offend anyone with my considerations, and an open minded person would see them as warning signs, that can be useful to keep a job in this global market of employment; there's always someone, somewhere with far better capabilities, willing to do it for less.

Best regards
