Need a PLC Programed

12/26/2011 3:38 PM

Hello all!

I have built a simple machine that requires a PLC to make it run. Three valves and six switches need to be controlled. I have visited a site that allows technicians to bid on such jobs as this, is this a viable way to go?

Thanks!

Post a diagram here. Maybe someone will take pity on you.

Hi lyn,

I can give sequential steps, will that work for a diagram? It'll take a little while to put it together.

Not sure if this is what you need, but it is a sample ladder diagram that turns on a fill valve when level is low and turns it off when level is high. The X's are level switches, the C's are virtual relays in the PLC, and the Y's are outputs to the valves.

|---|X1|----------|---(C1)---|
|---|X2|--|C1|---|---(Y1)---|
|---|X3|----------|---(C2)---|
|---|X4|--|C2|---|---(Y2)---|
|---|X5|----------|---(C3)---|
|---|X6|--|C3|---|---(Y3)---|

If you own anything with a PLC or PLR in it its in your best interest to learn how to program it!

On second thought, I withdraw the original question. Thanks.

And what provoked that, pray tell?

Tornado,

I'm sorry to have been so abrupt and rude yesterday by the way I ended the thread. It's that I realized it was going to take too long trying to do it this way and I'm so far behind on this project already. I had to leave for the day and didn't want to waste more of you good peoples time, so I ended the thread. I'm very sorry for not taking the time to explain yesterday and I'll think it through more carefully before I ask any more questions in the future.

Often, if you take the time and thought to present a question so that others can understand what you are asking, the solution will become obvious to you.

Yes your right, but if you look at the question I originally asked, I don't think you'd find it having been asked without thought or hurried. Fact is, no one addressed "that" question, instead went for the "do if yourself mode". Which is a direction I'm always eager to go, but as I'm sure you will agree isn't always the best or the fastest. Anyway, the site with which I was making reference is called Freelance, it's an interesting place to go, I may try it later, but for this project I'll resort to asking my overworked son if he would do this for me just one more time.

The reason I mentioned the Arduino is because you don't need to be a computer programmer to write in a few simple steps of operation. You never said what your machine does but I envisioned you returning over and over again to someone else to make slight modifications. This wastes time and money. With just a little learning and a few minutes on a PC or laptop you can fine tune your switches and valves to do exactly what you want them to do.

If you ask an engineer to solve a problem you might not get exactly what you thought you were getting. But usually you'll get a solution that addresses the heart of the problem. Good luck to you and your overworked son.
