LED and Drive Electronics Degradation

12/26/2011 8:46 PM

Hi....

I am trying to find out the degradation of the drive electronics of a universal light engine and the led array after some 6000 hours of ALT. Reason being we normally measure the brightness intensity as a whole unit, so we dont know how much contribution is due to the LED degradation and the drive electronics degradation. I would like to find out how we go about finding the drive electronics degradation for a 12V DC/AC operating Light Engine, which drives a three led array that consumes about 700ma per led, totalling about just over 2 amps.

Thanks

The LEDs are the problem, not the power supply. They've been around for years, unlike LEDs which are relatively new in the application.

Have you considered contacting the manufacturer of the LED? Have you considered studying the application notes at the LED manufacturer's web site? Have you considered looking for the LED manufacturer's web site? Have you ever heard of a new service on the web called Google? Do you know the design or designer of the drive electronics? Do you know that electrical engineers get paid for testing and certifying the quality and reliability of a design that will be ON continuously for eight and a half months? Do you believe that we can telepathically read the manufacturer and design of your circuit? Fortunately for you I cannot read your mind from here. If I could I would read your bank account numbers instead and take you for everything I could.

Have a safe day.

Oh I forgot to mention... I realize that you specified a low voltage (12V DC/AC) power distribution but this is still above the likely PN junction voltage. This implies a switching supply somewhere and the capacitors are the actual weak link here.
