NiMH Vs Lithium Ion

12/30/2011 2:00 AM

Hello All,

We are Developing battery charger circuit for Single-cell Li-Ion using The MC34671

and is charging fine. the datasheet of MC34671 says it can be used for Li-Ion or Li-Polymer batteries.my Doubt is if we use NiMH battery , instead of Lithium -ion, whether it will charge??? if yes what we have to modify on circuit? if no why???

Thanks in advance..

The management of charging a Li-Ion is very different to Ni-Mh. You will need a different device to to charge Ni-Mh batteries.

Use a Maxim MAX712/MAX713 or a Linear Technologies LTC1040 for Ni-MH batteries.

Google is your friend and a good resource in finding other alternate devices.

Tobugrynbak is right. Why would you use NiMH batteries in a Li-Ion charger?
