Thanks CR4 Crew

01/01/2012 1:57 AM

I'm not an engineer. But I have to say, you guys have done an excellent job over the past year.

Thank you for creating this place.

Thank you for allowing us to be ourselves.

Thank you for realizing that we are not bad people, but people with opinions.................opinions that may differ.

The transition over the past year has been remarkable. As a tiny internet community, lo and behold, somehow, the people that make up the community are able to regulate ourselves...............................for the most part.

The lack of moderation has been welcome.

I consider CR4 to be a microcosm of society. If people are left alone, they will tend to do the right thing. If people are ordered what to do, they will rebel.

Thanks again, and Happy New Year!

I'll give this much: the moderation on Amazon discussion forums is more Kafkaesque than here. However, in both cases, there is too much focus on certain buzzwords, such as maybe fool or liar, that get blown off in spite of extreme provocation.

There is a big difference between postings that are intellectually offensive, even if they avoid the buzzwords, and responses that are supportable, even if they do contain one or two of the buzzwords. The moderators don't always seem to check out the context.

It has mostly been better lately, though.

Stopping the guest postings was huge. Amazing what a little thing called accountability can do.

That said, somehow I was able to ruin another party at my neighbor's last night.

There was a young marine there. I wandered up to the conversation........... he was telling everyone that he was in marine intelligence. Being former navy, I was kind enough to explain that there was no such thing as marine intelligence.

Next thing I know, he's screaming like a girl and trying to poke my eyes out. It was pretty scary.

Kind of like a stealth peace sign, with my vision as a target.

Anywho.................I got blamed for ruining the party.

PS- His girlfriend is really hot. A young, staunch, level headed conservative. Hello.

My personal goal for 2012, is to try to put a stop to self imposed victimhood.

There are victims of war, injured veterans, etc. I will do everything in my power to try to help them.

And then there are people like this guy, that expect to be coddled like a baby because he voluntarily signed up for the military, spent a few months overseas, and now everyone owes him something. Bull*hit.

I'm declaring an end to the era of the victim. And you guys know what I'm talking about...........................it's not people that are true victims.

For all the victim wannnabees.................................get up off your a$$, brush yourself off..................and move on. I, for one, am tired of your perpetual whining.

Marine Intelligence = Oxymoron

That's why they're called Jarheads, and for good reason! LOL [I offer my sincere apologies beforehand as I am targeting and poking fun at the term, not the troop nor the Vet.]

[Okay Kram, now how many brewski's did you dump down your gullet prior to wandering over to the whining "Gyrine"? hehehehehehe]

At this juncture I will take the time to thank you all for an enjoyable 2011, as well as to wish everyone a Very Happy & Prosperous New Year!

I was doing fine until some girl introduced me to some kind of weird, sugary whiskey shots.

By the time I drank the 4th one, I knew it was the beginning of the end.

Seduced by another pretty face, and demon rum, weren't cha!

Now look at you. Hung over, feeling guilty, sorry for your irresponsible actions of the night before, wondering what you'll have to do to get back into the good graces of the little woman.............

Fun, wasn't it!

Hung over myA$#$.

I'm still drunk. My awesome wife is feeding me champaign and orange juice.

I'm the only responsible person on the planet..........................everybody else is fu&&&ed up.

I guess I choked my new little marine friend last night....................almost to death.

I don't know what to say..............except.............don't try to poke my eye out.

I like to think that I bring the hole world a little closer by providing a common enemy.

It's my job.

I'm getting better. This season gets me a little depressed reflective. Thinking about stuff.

Kind of a personal cleansing................................if not for bad things, good things would not exist. Accepting the bad is difficult, but necessary.

I'm glad to be alive. Life is good.

Glad I have my friends on CR4 too. Any attempt to deny that is futile.

I'm Proud of you Kramarat and CR4. What better way to start a New Year than having a "Near Blinded" experience.

It didn't turn out to be that big of a deal. After all, it was a near miss....................................nor did I choke him almost to death. I exaggerated a little.

What can I say? Multiple shots of whiskey, combined with revisiting old Army-Navy-Marine rivalries probably wasn't a real good idea.

Knowing my neighbors, it will all end up being my fault, which is fine. I'm the oldest so I'll take the hit. The former Marine is only 27, and probably still thinks he's indestructible. Maybe he learned not to get physical with us older guys..................we scare easily, and will do whatever is necessary to disable our attacker. I just don't have what it takes for a prolonged fight anymore.

Used to feel the same way. We were in a foreign port, one of our guys (a snipe) got out of hand. A fellow asked him to quiet down, and words were exchanged as well as ID cards. Turns out the fellow was a USMC O6. Our CO was junior O6 so he had to get dressed and go visit. Awhile later, I made Chief and got to read the incident report. This Marine wrote up the exchange even so far as the syntax. The Colonel described this guy to a tee. I copied some of the poignant statements and showed them to a jr Decky, he didn't know the guys name, but was able to point him out.

Went to a couple of tech schools with some grunts, they blew away the squids, I guess if they didn't ace the class, they got special attention.

Oh and Happy New Year

Indeed from this we get more information based on personal experience and websites including books. CR4 is more useful than a dictionary or a reference library.
