Subgrade Earthing

01/03/2012 1:16 AM

Subgrade earthing is earthing immediately below the first top layer on earth i.e. of soil, rock etc?

This is of importance when designing earthing and lightning protection system.

regards,

sks

There are codes for lightning protection systems that vary from country to country. The label that is attached to the earthing system is of little consequence.

These codes vary from country to country based on weather patterns of thunder days and lightning days and the level/magnitude of voltage generation, transmission, and distribution. Electric and magnetic field analysis are carried out in studying voltage levels with the effect of lighting and thunder as per lightning days and thunder days data in those countries. Where by the level of earthing is determined with the scope of developing a safe earthing system for the safe operation of the level of voltage transmitted and distributed to consumers. The type of soil in an installation site is another factor which determines the effectiveness of an earthing system.
