Oxy Cylinders Valve Thread in Germany

01/03/2012 8:57 AM

What thread have welding oxygen cylinders valves (connection to a regulator) in Germany ? I have considered buying a Rothenberger oxy/fuel torch, which oxygen cylinder, according to the buyer, has a standart valve :

Das Ventil ist ein Standardventil, deshalb passt jeder Sauerstoffdruckregler bis 200bar

But, according to a catalogue, the valve has R 3/4 thread (taper thread ?) - while we here to the other end of the EU are "parallel", meaning I would not be able to refill my cylinder. Or are the Rothenberger cylinder valve thread"parallel" ?

Andy in Germany might be able to answer this for you. You might try Personal Messaging Andy for his input.

Sadly I don't weld anymore with gases, except for MIG/MAG. All the cylinders I use have a LH thread, that is propane as well which I use for brazing.

Germany and the UK even have different propane connections, so the standards are not standard everywhere, not yet anyway.

Therefore your question is completely valid.....sorry I cannot help.

The R 3/4' thread is a parallel thread according to http://www.seveke.de/tauchen/technik/1werte.htm

You probably are right - "R" should be obsolete for "G" now (parallel thread). I was at this site/file too, but have stumbled confused over the entry "Kegeliges Whitworth Rohrgewinde DIN 2999".

Thank you guys!

I think you'll find that they are universal, I have Rothenberger gauges that fit any cylinder in England, NB the acetylene are left hand thread as I'm sure you'll know.

What country are you in? If you are in Australia you may not be able to get your cylinder filled.

Just buy the torch not the regulators. You will be able to use the regulators of your own country, just fit the appropriate hose fittings to your torch hoses ,end of problem.
