Push Button for ESD 2.1 Hierarchy

01/06/2012 9:51 PM

Hi all,

I have a question regarding the Control SystemLogic for ESD2.1 Hierarchy "Total platform blowdown".

We are installing a new manual ESD Pushbutton for activationof the ESD2.1 "TOTAL PLATFORM BLOWDOWN". (One DI is added now beacause of this switch)

However there is a matrix panel also for this pushbutton switch.this matrix panel has two pushbuttons with lights.(2 DI and 2 DO are considered ).

one Pushbutton with light for Alarm (test) and one for block.

So the installation ofthis new pushbutton has led to addition of following IO signals:

1 DI --- FromPushbutton.

2DI-FromPushbuttonin matrix panel

2DO- Forthe LED lights of the Pushbutton in matrix panel

Can someone please tell me the purpose of this AlARM and Block pushbuttons with lights in the matrix panel.

And How they are used ?

Thanks in advance

"TOTAL PLATFORM BLOWDOWN". Please put your question into clear context.

What type of platform, where? I would think that without this very basic information, you will never receive the guidance you are looking for.

Hi,

Total Platform blowdown for an offshore platform .

This oil Platform has several levels of hierarchy for the EMERGENCY SHUTDOWN .

Total platformblowdown is with ESD2.1 Hierarchy. the activation of ESD2.1 Hierarchy leads to shutdown of some critical equipments.

I hope this information is now proper. Please let me know if more

information required.

Wouldn't the ALARM and LIGHT be ESD test functions?

We are installing a new manual ESD Pushbutton for activationof the ESD2.1 "TOTAL PLATFORM BLOWDOWN".

This is a formal change to your ESD system, and if you are already installing, there should be both an engineering narrative, and related cause-and-effect diagram available to you as standard requirements for the change design approval. Suggest source these documents to answer your queries.

We can only give an educated opinion of the designers' actual intentions.

Absolutly... I know that all the offshore companies I have worked for followed a very strict M.O.C. (management of change). This included even the smallest modification to what I often felt was all but meaningless in regards to the paper trail.

Most certainly when we start talking about ESD systems, this would warrant the platform owners engineers (in this case both electrical and mechanical) to become involved, submit and most likely re-submit many drawings before the system is ever thought of being modified in any way.

OR is the poster part of the engineering group???

Hi all,

My question was about the use of Pushbuttons with LED lights in the ESD matrix panel.I got your points about small modifications which are done in offshore platforms.

If i could know What the ESD matrix panel buttons do then i would have got more clear solution. I guess its installed for testing of the logic but some says its for emergency activation of ESD from CCR But if the later one is considered the right reson then i say there is already a separate button alredy present in the ccr for this purpose.

Sorry if i have again confused you all.But any ways Thanks to all of you for the answers.
