Transformer manufacturers do a heat-run test on their transformers and they know the hottest spot in the winding during a rated load condition. It is better to install your temperature sensing device in the hottest spot to provide a good degree of thermal protection to the transformeer. It is applicable to all Power Transformers and to all Distribution transformers. Both to the Oil type as well as the Dry type.
