Most land-line telephone calls are sent that way.

  • Telephone calls going any distance are more likely to be routed down an optical fibre than down a copper cable.
  • Fibre-optics are more likely to be used than copper cables for long-distance telephone calls.
  • Copper conductors are falling into disuse for long-distance telephone calls in favour of optical fibres.

Any of the above.

Ok, how bout this.

First, you get a laser. Then yell really loud at it. Now measure the deflection of the beam. Don't point the laser at airplanes because they can't hear you anyway. They're still using analog radios and they don't operate at the speed of light anyway. They operate at the speed of dark.

If the speed of light is 186, 282 miles per second, what is the speed of dark? I make it -299.792.458 m/s, is that about right.

Please insert another 25 cents.

  1. Amplitude modulation.
  2. Frequency modulation.
  3. Phase modulation.
  4. Pulse rate modulation.
  5. Pulse width modulation.
  6. Pulse height modulation.
  7. Polarization modulation.
  8. Direct beam direction modulation by sound vibrating laser.
  9. Burn a CD and post it, put in CD player at destination.
  10. Interference pattern between direct and mirror deflected beams.

Google these things and I am sure demodulators will be described.
