Earth Loop Impedance

01/10/2012 6:30 AM

Hello All,

A client wants me to measure earth loop impedance on his 11kV network.

I thought one could only measure earth loop impedance on low voltage (load)networks (secondary side of the transformers). 230V in this case.

Please enlighten/confirm if this is possible.

Thanks.

A question of this type indicates the unsuitablility of the poster to carry out the task on safety grounds. Hire someone to do it instead.

Perhaps a little research is in order...

As PWSlack said, you should find a new line of work, soon.

Does your client know you're clueless?

The earth loop impedance of any network needs to be determined and recoded before the network is energised. There should be a record of it. Why does the Client want to know whether it has changed (rhetorical question)? It may be because of changes to the installation, in which case the organisation changing it will have carried out a test before re-energising.

This is a document-chasing exercise between the Client and the organisation that changed the installation. Don't get involved.

What has it go to do with voltage level? As long as there is a possibility of an earth fault in the system, it is important to measure the erath loop impedance.
