Dear sir,

Good morning,

Please tell me how much weld bead width is acceptable in any weld process like SMAW,GMAW or FCAW as per any reference code or standard practice.

With best regards,

Why don't you simply ask your customer what he WANTS or how wide a bead he will accept ?

We can give you all sorts of (good) answers but if your customer doesn't LIKE your weld, then our "industry-accepted" standards are of no use to you.

Regardless of what the specifications say, it is wise to remember that all fusion welds involve melting of metal. During cooling, the metal shrinks and creates stress, strain, or both, in the welded assembly. The narrower the molten region, the less affected the final assembly is from the shrinkage. This is why the high power density processes such as resistance, electron beam and laser welding produce less distortion in finished assemblies. Armed with this information, you may be able to answer your question.
