How much electricity is put into the (US) grid by steam power plants? How many solar steam electric power plants are there? How many new solar steam power plants are being built ?.

Look for yourself at the Energy Information Administration. There's tons of information. Some of which will surprise you.

"The modern steam turbine (invented by Sir Charles Parsons in 1884) currently generates about 80 percent of the electric power in the world using a variety of heat sources."

"Solar photovoltaic was 0.06%, and solar thermal was 0.004%." In the US .88% is solar thermal...

" While existing generation facilities provide only 600 megawatts of solar thermal power worldwide in October 2009, [note 1] plants for an additional 400 megawatts are under construction and development is underway for concentrated solar power projects totalling 14,000 megawatts.[4]"
