Hewlett Packard DV7 Laptop Problems

01/15/2012 1:52 PM

Dear Fellow Roommates,

Our dv7 HP is dead. Please no cards or flowers.

It has been moderate for a too short time. The battery has been replaced and multiple Vista related disturbances.

The adapter (18,5 V DC) is OK now, but the motherboard doesn't kick in.

I know, I can check the regulator on the board and the chance it is defective is big.

But... here is a big problem to get parts.

Question:

1: If and when I buy a different laptop, will the hard drive(s) be interchangeable?

2: What is the make of the year ? Price/ expected life time.

Thank You. D

Thank you so much. The link is very good.

Any idea of the interchangeability of the Hard Drives? There is some needed info on it. G.A. D.

Hard drives are not interchangeable, but you can copy one to another...any good tech can do this, that is if the hard drive still runs....You should have your files backed up on an external hard drive for just this type of thing, a lesson I learned from the same situation...

You can also get a USB supported hard drive case.

Install your hard drive in the case.

Plug the cord from the case into you new laptop and access or transfer files you need.

You may have to convert some document and spread sheet file to newer program versions on your new machine.

Hard drive cases can be bought for as low as $29.95

TigerDirect.com is a good source.

I have used this company for several years - no complaints.
