what is the difference b/w power supply and switch mode power supply.

please define clearly with example.

Your simple full wave bridge power supply charges its smoothing capacitor to something near the zero to peak voltage. Then it only conducts current when the capacitor voltage drops, causing narrow gulps of current.

A switch mode power supply draws energy off the incomming sine wave at many points along the wave, thereby looking more like a linear load (almost like a resistor).
