Cost Comparison Power Transfer at Different Voltage Level

01/17/2012 5:16 AM

Want to know economics of 75 MW power transmission and distribution in a plant from Power plant ( 250 m Away from plant) at 33kV / 11 KV/6.6kV level. Which voltage level would b economical . Can you give a reough estimat or comparision?

Power= V x A, transmission at high current cost high due to bigger size of conductors, lessen the size of conductors, ideally you pick the higher voltage, that would be 33kV. Distance wont matter at all since from distribution line to corresponding consumer lines, distance would be considerably far enough so again cost wise, transfer of electrical energy should be at higher voltage with smaller conductor size. Thus also saving you the needs of step up-transformer, if you'd pick the lower Voltage rating at distrubution line for re-distribution to local consumers.

To further validate, do some comparative cost studies.

The higher the voltage the more current you get on a similar size conductor, to a point....That point being within the bounds of arc discharge, insulation, and other factors...

Eagle, I think you have been on the beach too long. Sun has messed with your mind.

The higher the voltage the more power you can transfer. The current rating of the conductor is the same.

Amps x volts = watts....The higher the volts times the same amount of amps equals a higher wattage ie; power ..If you want to maximize power, raise the voltage...I have solved the problem of getting more power over a small conductor many times by raising the voltage...I apologize for any misunderstanding

Eagle, I agree with you on that post 100%. I may have misunderstood your other post.
