Pipe Support Type for Compressor Outlet

01/18/2012 4:41 AM

Can you just tell me which will be the type of support at outlet and inlet of a reciprocating H2 Gas compressor? Is there any vibration effect with normal support? The line has hot insulation and pressure is 34 KG at outlet.

Surely there is a mechanical design drawing for this area (rhetorical question)?

Is there a vibration effect? YES

Your system piping should be supported as per normal standards depending upon its diameter and physical location (horizontal, vertical, overhead, etc) you should have a flexible joint or flexible connection between the compressor outlet and the rigid piping.

Many applications as this will employ a S/S expansion joint to handle the vibration.

This is ABSOLUTELY WRONG for any reciprocating compressor piping. Do not use any flexible joints or flexible connectors, make the piping configuration along with the proper type of pipe supports located in the proper place.

Ok then, so you feel it is correct to have the rigid piping connected DIRECTLY to the compressor, nothing to absorb the units vibration?

So you are saying the piping and its connection to the compressor itself is meant to absorb all vibration and stabilize the compressor???

Its funny to see how far from the restraints of reality you are sir.

You can call me ABSOLUTLY WORNG, I've been called worse than that, just don't call me late for dinner! I have also installed more than my share of compressor systems.

Original poster should find a reputable engineer to visit his application in depth PennPiper is just a little to sure of himself (my humble opinion).

This was not written to start a little pissing match either, so lets not go down that road ok?

Normally it has been seen that flexible joints are avoided in Reciprocating compressor's suction-discharge pipings. Yes rigid piping with suitable loops are connected to suction and discherge surge drums which are normally connected directly to cylinder block nozzles. In fact compressor dynamics and stability is designed taking consideration of rigid piping without flexible joints.

GA Mukesh, your answer may satisfy both Mr Tim & Penn, where coments went on little off road. In fact, suction and discherge surge drums and after coolers absorb a lot of vibration.
