Compact Electric Air Compressor

01/18/2012 11:17 AM

Is there a compact air compressor in the market, which is powerful enough for the intake air of the IC engine? Thank you.

Why not use the exhaust gases to turn it instead [turbocharger]?

Why not use the engine's driveshaft to turn it instead [supercharger]?

This is for an experimental two-stroke engine with an intake valve (no oil/fuel mixture intended). A supercharger is to be supplemented with a compressor or vice versa.

I am not sure there is any compact yet powerful compressor practical for this use.

I am hoping my design could be used to convert current 4-stroke engine into 2-stroke and save weight, fuel and ... before the electric cars are more prevalent.

Why an electric compressor? Other ways of turning it have already been described, and are immediately more applicable. What happens to the engine when the supply fuse feeding this conceptual electric compressor goes open-circuit due to a fault?

The size of each cylinder is assumed at 600-800cc. Pending number of cylinder of the engine, the compress should have the capacity to feed sequentially or .. similar to the fuel-injection system. Is the leaf blower type compressor efficient enough?

Sure, if the IC engine is for a leaf blower.

Yes, but a belt driven blower is more practical.

This is a Sonic Air system. I've used them many times in the past and think they are great. Not an endorsement, just the facts.

I think I saw a Buick once that claimed to have an electric supercharger. The big question for you is: can this blower produce more horsepower than it draws? No sense hanging another blower on a supercharged motor if the return is less than the drag. You have to power this blower somehow!

The main thing is net gain of horsepower. If you want some more power, alter the fuel.
