Changing Motor On Air Compressor

Can a Speedair electrical 5 H.P. air compressor that has a 3phase 60 hertz 480 volt motor be converted to receiving 3 phase 50 hertz 350 volts just by putting a 50 hertz 350 motor?

There maybe a difference between motor frame specifications which may need some changes. Changes to rpm will effect CFM output. Have to correct that with the pulley.

Yes, but to match output, wattage must be matched....Amps x volts = watts...Check the full load amps on each plate and multiply it times the voltage you are using...If the new motor is undersized you may be able to compensate by pulley size relationship manipulation....ie; decreasing pulley size at motor and/or increasing pulley size at compressor....I would also check to see if any electrical controls are involved...these should be just make or break switches controlled by pressure, but I would check to make sure....

Much as I dislike pedantry, I do think that SolarEagle's power formula needs to be corrected before someone comes unstuck through using it.

In an AC circuit where the load(s) have a significant reactance, the formula for power is : Power = Volts x Amps x Power Factor

For a motor, the power factor is often taken as a nominal 0.8 although it does, of course, vary quite a bit depending on the operating point of the motor.

The error introduced by ignoring the power factor is therefore quite significant, and cannot be ignored without peril.

Yes, with conditions, as stated above.

You may have a physically larger motor at 50Hz 350V.

You can replace the motor by considering following points

RPM of motor RPM will decrease comparatively if it is 4 pole motor you better choose for 2 pole motor and fly wheel arrangement to maintain previous motor RPM

kW/HP rating of motor i prefer to choose little more capacity than previous motor capacity.
