Guidance in Rotating Machinaries Requested

01/28/2012 8:18 AM

Hi i am a fresher in rotating equipments and am very keen to learn about pumps compressors gas turbines.I wish to learn the fundementals of rotating eqpts.I am fortunately working for an oil and gas firm in their offshore base in the gulf as a mechanical technician, and am also familiar with most of the static and rotating equipts. But since i am only a technically qualified without any engineering degree or diploma(only a basic mechanical trade certificate from india),i find it very tough to meet my counterparts communicative needs ,who have basic engineering knowledge and pose a tough challenge to me in my area of work.I spend lots of time with books pertaining to fundamentals of rotating equipments, begining from various alignments to,auxillary systems, simulations, certain calibrations, some trouble shooting detections etc..All i need is to develop myself ,starting from the basics. Please can you forward some informative material or suggest me some good links for my development

Thanks.

I received this in an e-mail in August, 2011...

The Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) OpenCourseWare program provides 2,000 online courses for free. Available departments include Architecture, Brain and Cognitive Sciences, Electrical Engineering and Computer Science, and more. Upgrading to full tuition costs about $41,000 more.

Also of note, The Open University, based in the United Kingdom, has 600 online courses for free. It's available to everyone. Choose from Arts and Humanities, Health and Social Care, Languages, Law, Math and Statistics, and more.

You may find these helpful so long as you need the knowledge and not a certificate.

Good luck!

You're right Roney.

As a fresher you are indeed fortunate to be cutting your teeth in a highly disciplined (one hopes) environment with highly experienced (one expects) mentors.

Stick close to your mentors. watch and learn and pester them with questions.

This opportunity will not repeat itself.

You are lucky to be learning your craft in this era. The world's knowledge is available to you through the www. How I wish this was around when I started out.

That you are asking bodes well for you.

Good luck!!
