I'm just curious -- you're in a manhole pulling high voltage cables, and apparently you aren't sure how to test the circuit (your need for info on a megger in your other post), and you don't know how to terminate these cables.

You've got access to the internet to post questions here on CR4, but you aren't able to google this info, like simply to find what kind of terminals to use?

How does this situation arise, that cables have been pulled with no plans or materials for finishing the job? How did you get this job that you seem to be so completely unprepared for? Maybe you should find something else to do, before someone gets electrocuted, like maybe yourself.

jess,I agree with Usbport, you should be ashamed to ask such questions.

You obviously have no idea what you are doing and will ultimately cause someone's injury or death by trying to perform tasks that you know nothing about.

I'm really sorry I responded to your first lame question, now.

Did you megger the cable first?

Try a search, if you know how. If not let us know and we will help you learn how to do your own work.

Jess

I did not see anything that indicated that this was a high voltage cable. If true,

what is the actual voltage?

As long as my limited knowledge..., there is no such Cable dimension available !!! Try to learn the basic cable's knowledge first before you go pulling & terminate the job... It is extremely dangerous for you & others if you don't even understand on what kilo Volt will this XLPE cable be operated....sigh !!!

First of all you did not mention whether the voltage on your XLPE Cable is LV. MV. or HV. So you opened up the manhole tried to guess what you gonna do as a medics did to perform first aid on the ailing patient that might have been hit by blind -hungry ostrich on the road. If you dont have such kind of suitable voltage tester in your hand just try to touch the cable strand if you shake little then it is 11OV, but if you shake twice than the first try its probably be 220V, if you feel like smoke coming out from your ears and nose and having your fingernails toasted then might be 13.80 kv. Buddy better leave the job to the technically cable jointer expert rather than trying to do it by yourself halfway wherein it might danger your life...do you have a family or simply kids going to school? Bear in mind that electricity and bullets respect no master, both can kill within a second without having a chance to say " hallelujah".

Get someone who knows & who's qualified to do the job.

jess

Termination on an XLPE cable is a specialist job using special jointing materials. Get the experts to do it (contact cable manufacturer) if you really have to use XLPE as opposed to real cable.

Google "High Voltage Electric".

Choose three MV electrical contractors in your area.

Click the "Contact Us" tab on each web site.

Dial the telephone number(s) shown.

Ask for someone in estimating.

Describe to the estimator what the scope of work is.

The estimator will work up a price for you.

Review all three estimates.

Hire the company with the following criteria in this order:

1 - Best Qualifications

2 - Most Experienced

3 - Most Competitive Price
