How to Decide Branch Connection Fittings

On what basis branch fittings decided for a run pipe?im just a beginner.for eg:for a 10" header line we take 8" RT(Reduced Tee) for 8" branch.how we will decide RT?is there any calculations to decide branch fittings.Please provide info if any.

The type of take-off (branch fitting) used on a piping system is specific to the flow medium.

If the medium is water, branch tees are OK.

If the medium is gas pressurized to liquid (CO2, refrigerant, etc.), take off from top of pipe to get gas, bottom to get liquid.

Size take-offs using formulas relevant to medium (water = Hazens and Williams)
